FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a 'normal' menstrual cycle?

Cycles typically range from 21 to 35 days, with 2–7 days of bleeding. Some variation is normal, but consistently irregular, very heavy, or very painful periods are worth discussing with a doctor.

How do I know when I'm ovulating?

Ovulation usually happens about 12–16 days before your next period. Signs include changes in cervical mucus and a small rise in basal body temperature. Our ovulation calculator estimates your fertile window from your cycle length.

Could my symptoms be PCOS?

PCOS can involve irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth, and difficulty conceiving. Only a doctor can diagnose it, usually with a combination of history, blood tests, and sometimes an ultrasound. Our PCOS guide explains what to expect.

When should I see a doctor about my cycle?

See a healthcare professional if your periods stop, become very irregular, are unusually heavy or painful, or if you have symptoms like severe pelvic pain. This hub is educational and does not replace personalised medical advice.
