What this maternity benefit calculator covers
This India-specific calculator combines paid leave rules with the government maternity scheme logic already used in the ParentVibes maternity schemes guide. It estimates leave weeks, a likely leave window, rejoin date, the payer to check, and a wage-based pay estimate.
It also shows cash or service benefits that may be relevant, including PMMVY, Janani Suraksha Yojana, JSSK, ESI maternity benefit, the Maternity Benefit Act, Ayushman Bharat and supported state schemes.
How the estimate works
- 26 weeks of paid leave for the first two surviving children.
- 12 weeks for the third or later child, adoption or commissioning motherhood.
- 6 weeks for miscarriage or medical termination leave.
- Average daily wage is estimated as monthly wage divided by 26.
- Medical bonus is added only when the input says no free pre/post-natal care is available.
The result is intentionally conservative. It does not store your wage, scheme result, or health details unless you choose to save a pregnancy dashboard, and analytics only receives coarse calculator completion buckets.
Important compliance note
This is an indicative estimate, not legal, payroll, medical or financial advice. For final decisions, confirm with your HR/payroll team, ESIC, Anganwadi or ASHA worker, hospital desk, and the relevant official scheme portal.
FAQs
- How many weeks of maternity leave does this calculator use?
- For salaried employees, it estimates 26 weeks for the first two surviving children, 12 weeks for the third or later child, 12 weeks for adoption or commissioning mothers, and 6 weeks for miscarriage or MTP leave. Confirm your exact entitlement with your employer or ESIC.
- Who pays maternity leave salary in India?
- If you are ESI-covered, the cash maternity benefit is usually paid through ESIC. If you are not ESI-covered and otherwise eligible under the Maternity Benefit Act, the employer usually pays.
- How does ParentVibes estimate maternity leave pay?
- The calculator uses average daily wage = average monthly wage divided by 26, then multiplies by the leave days. Payroll teams may use their own verified records and statutory rules, so treat this as an estimate.
- Can self-employed mothers use this calculator?
- Yes, but it will not estimate statutory paid leave under ESI or the Maternity Benefit Act. It can still surface possible government cash, free-care, insurance and state maternity schemes based on your inputs.
- Are government scheme amounts guaranteed?
- No. The calculator gives guidance only. PMMVY, JSY, JSSK, Ayushman Bharat and state schemes have official eligibility checks, documents, timelines and portals that are the final authority.
