7 Months Baby: Development, Feeding and Sleep

Around seven months, many babies sit more steadily and some begin rocking, shuffling or early crawling. Solids usually expand in texture and variety. Every baby moves at their own pace, so wide ranges are completely normal.

These guides describe common developmental patterns, not deadlines. Every baby develops at their own pace.

Seven-month-old baby sitting up — ParentVibes 7-month overview

What this month looks like

Development

Steadier independent sitting, rocking on hands and knees and reaching across the body are common. Some babies begin to crawl or shuffle.

Feeding

Solids often expand to more textures and finger foods, alongside continued milk feeds. Offering a variety of tastes supports acceptance over time.

Sleep

Movement and awareness can affect sleep for a while. Keeping the wind-down calm and consistent may help.

Play

Stacking cups, soft balls and containers to fill and empty are engaging. Naming objects during play supports early language.

Safety

Before crawling arrives, secure furniture, cover sockets, add stair gates and move hazards up high. A quick sweep now keeps new skills safe.

Medical guidance

Bring feeding or mobility questions to routine visits. Contact your doctor if your baby isn't sitting with support or seems to have lost a skill.
