Overview
What is MRMBS (Tamil Nadu)?
Tamil Nadu's Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme (MRMBS) gives cash and nutrition support to pregnant women from poorer families, to make up for lost wages and improve maternal nutrition.
Eligible women receive ₹18,000 in total value for each of their first two deliveries — paid in stages linked to antenatal care, institutional delivery and the child's immunisation — along with two nutrition kits.
The scheme runs through the state's Reproductive & Child Health (RCH) system, and you need a PICME-generated 12-digit RCH ID to claim it.

Answers
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy scheme give?
₹18,000 in total value per delivery (for the first two deliveries), across instalments of ₹6,000 + ₹6,000 + ₹2,000 plus two nutrition kits. Confirm the current split on the PICME portal.
Do I need a PICME ID?
Yes. A 12-digit RCH ID generated through PICME is mandatory — you cannot claim the benefit without it, so register early.
Is it only for the first two children?
Yes. The benefit is provided for a woman's first two deliveries only.
Can I get this and PMMVY?
States run maternity benefits in convergence with the national PMMVY. Ask your Village Health Nurse which cash benefit you'll receive so entitlements aren't duplicated.
Do I have to deliver in a government hospital?
The post-delivery instalments require an institutional delivery at a government or approved facility.
