Honest answers to the questions fathers ask us most.
How can I support my partner during pregnancy?
Show up for the practical and the emotional: attend antenatal appointments and scans when you can, help with household work and rest, learn the warning signs to watch for, and simply listen without trying to 'fix' everything. Sharing the mental load — remembering medicines, tests and questions for the doctor — makes a real difference. Our 'Supporting Your Partner in Pregnancy' guide has a stage-by-stage checklist.
How do I bond with my baby as a dad?
Bonding grows through everyday care — skin-to-skin cuddles, talking and singing, nappy changes, baths, babywearing and taking a night feed with expressed milk or formula. Babies recognise your voice and smell early, so consistent, hands-on time matters more than 'getting it perfect'. See our 'Bonding With Your Baby' guide for simple daily ideas.
What are the paternity leave rules in India?
Central government employees are entitled to paternity leave, and many private companies now offer their own paternity or parental-leave policies, but there is currently no single statutory paternity-leave law covering all private-sector workers in India. Check your employer's HR policy and plan leave around the birth and the first few weeks. Our work-life-balance guide covers making the most of the time you get.
Is it normal for new dads to feel anxious or low?
Yes. Becoming a father is a huge life change, and many dads experience stress, anxiety or low mood — especially with disrupted sleep and new responsibilities. It does not make you a weak or bad parent. If low mood, worry or irritability lasts more than two weeks or affects daily life, please talk to a doctor or counsellor. Reaching out early helps you and your family.
How can I stay involved if I work long hours or travel?
Quality and consistency count more than quantity. Protect a small daily ritual — a bedtime story, a morning cuddle, or a video call when you're away — and take on a couple of 'owned' tasks (bath time, weekend mornings) so your role is dependable. Children feel secure when they know what to expect from you.
Where can I connect with other fathers?
You are not meant to do this alone. Join the ParentVibes community to read real dad stories and diaries, ask questions, and swap practical tips with other fathers going through the same stage. Our Community feed and Dad Corner stories are good places to start.
