2 Months Baby: Development, Feeding and Sleep

Around two months, many parents are rewarded with a first social smile. Babies often coo in response to your voice and hold their head a little more steadily during supervised tummy time. Every baby reaches these moments in their own time.

These guides describe common developmental patterns, not deadlines. Every baby develops at their own pace.

Two-month-old baby smiling — ParentVibes 2-month overview

What this month looks like

Development

Social smiles, cooing and following a moving face or toy with the eyes are common around now. Head control during tummy time often improves.

Feeding

Feeds may space out a little for some babies. Growth is best seen as a steady pattern over weeks rather than any single feed or weight.

Sleep

Some babies begin longer night stretches, but frequent night waking is still very normal and not a problem to fix.

Play

Respond to coos to encourage back-and-forth 'conversation'. Offer short tummy time and simple high-contrast toys within view.

Safety

Keep the sleep space bare and firm. As babies get stronger, be extra careful on changing tables and sofas.

Medical guidance

The 6-week to 2-month check and vaccinations usually fall around now. Your vaccination tracker can help you keep each date organised.
