Just into toddlerhood
13 Months Baby: Development, Feeding and Sleep
Your child has completed the first-year week-by-week journey. Around thirteen months, many toddlers are taking early steps, using a few words and exploring with growing confidence. Development from here is better followed by broader stages than by single weeks — our toddler guidance continues from this point.
These guides describe common developmental patterns, not deadlines. Every baby develops at their own pace.

What this month looks like
Development
Early walking, more purposeful gestures and a small but growing vocabulary are common. Walking timelines vary widely and later steps are still normal.
Feeding
Most toddlers eat family foods across the day with milk alongside. Appetite naturally varies from day to day at this age.
Sleep
Many toddlers move toward one longer nap over the coming months. Night sleep continues to consolidate for most.
Play
Pretend play, simple problem-solving toys and shared books support this stage. Copying and 'helping' with everyday tasks is common.
Safety
Confident movement and climbing bring new risks — keep re-checking babyproofing and supervise around stairs, windows and water.
Medical guidance
Continue with routine checks and vaccinations. Raise any concerns about walking, speech or hearing with your paediatrician.
