The First Time She Smiled
It wasn't wind. It was her, choosing to smile at me.
For six weeks I wasn't sure she knew who I was. I changed her, rocked her, walked endless laps of the living room at 3am — and got nothing back but that unfocused newborn stare.
Then one ordinary morning, mid-nappy-change, she looked straight at me and smiled. A proper, whole-face smile.
It wasn't wind. It was her, choosing to smile at me.
Everyone tells you the early weeks are hard. Nobody quite prepares you for how one small thing can make all of it worth it.
If you're in the thick of the newborn fog right now: it's coming. Keep showing up. She's learning your face.
